Draft of Nursing's Social Policy Statement Posted for Public Comment

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is seeking input on their draft of Nursing's Social Policy Statement: The Essence of the Profession. Please take this opportunity to review and comment on the content and format of this document. ANA would like to have the greatest dissemination and input possible, so sharing this information with nursing colleagues, other professionals, consumers, and other stakeholders is recommended. Closing date is March 15, 2009.


Endorsement of Updated JCAHO Wrong Site Surgery Protocol

AAACN has endorsed the revised JCAHO Universal Protocol on Wrong Site Surgery which will be effective January 1, 2009. The Universal Protocol was revised based on feedback received at the Wrong Site Surgery Summit in 2007 and has new or deleted elements of performance. It includes a new numbering system and minor language changes for consistency. The new numbering format was designed to enable sorting electronically (for the new E-ditions of the manuals) and to accommodate the addition of new requirements.
