As 2019 comes to a close, we’re pleased to share some AAACN accomplishments from the past year, as well as exciting initiatives planned for 2020.

  • Released a revised Core Curriculum for Ambulatory Care Nursing, and a revised Care Coordination and Transition Management Core Curriculum.
  • AAACN President Kristene Grayem and Past-President Kathy Mertens gave ambulatory care nurses a voice during the recent Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Town Halls.
  • The ANPD Clinical Education Matrix Task Force completed its work compiling accrediting, onboarding, and regulatory requirements for ambulatory clinical education. The information was added to the ANPD Clinical Education Matrix and is available for free to members.
  • The Telehealth Nursing Practice Education Resources Task Force is reviewing current resources that could be used for the education, orientation, and professional development for nurses engaged in telehealth practice, and developing a Telehealth Education Resources Directory that will be posted on the AAACN website in 2020.
  • The Academic-Practice Partnerships Task Force is working to develop guidelines that will help foster academic-clinical partnerships in ambulatory care settings and assist in expediting education and preparation of an RN ambulatory care workforce.
  • The Telephone Triage Online Course Task Force was commissioned to update, revise, and format the content into a complete online course that will be available in the AAACN Online Library in 2020.
  • The RN Role/Value Proposition (ROI) Task Force is developing a starter toolkit for new ambulatory care leaders that will include a business case description and a return on investment (ROI) template, talking points, and exemplars that support AAACN members as they advocate for implementing and expanding the RN role in ambulatory care.
  • The Registered Nurse Residency White Paper Review and Update Task Force was formed to revise and update the Ambulatory Registered Nurse Residency White Paper.
  • The Nurse Executive Task Force is creating a toolkit that will assist ambulatory care nurse leaders in developing structures that underscore nursing, value, ownership, accountability, and collaboration within the interdisciplinary team. The Nurse Executive Toolkit will be released in 2020.
