We've all been known to keep medications well past their expiration date. If you're planning some summer cleaning, be sure to dispose of old medications; these drugs pose a risk to others in your household. But don't just flush them! Many old medications are considered household hazardous waste and should be disposed of properly. This means no flushing down the toilet or drain unless the medication instructions specifically say you can do so. Before you flush, try calling your local pharmacies to see if they have a drug take-back program. This will ensure medications are disposed of properly.
