New Snapshots Show States Vary Widely in Providing Quality Health Care

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) annual report of state-by-state quality data continues to give States mixed reviews for the quality of care they provide. The report identifies state-specific health care quality information, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. No state does well or poorly on all quality measures. New sections this year focus on asthma and disparities.

Help AAACN Grow Through the Member-get-a-Member Campaign

The Member-get-a-Member campaign runs through December 31, 2009. With this annual campaign, we ask you, our members, to each get at least one new member by letting colleagues know about the benefits of being a member and why AAACN membership is important to you. Members who recruit 3 or more members receive a $100 AAACN certificate. The member who recruits the most new members (6 or more) will receive airfare, hotel, and registration to next year's conference in Las Vegas, May 3-6, 2010.

Learn AAACN's Position on the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)

Members of AAACN provided their comments on a draft of the NLC position statement, and the Board of Directors approved the final statement submitted by the Nurse Licensure Compact Task Force. Comments from members were considered, and when appropriate, incorporated into the final statement which is meant to provide a clear explanation of the benefits of being a Compact state and provides documentation in support of legislation or regulation adopting the NLC.

Members Comment on Conceptual Framework Expansion

The Standards Revision Task Force proposed the expansion of the conceptual framework and conceptual diagram for ambulatory care nursing by adding the concept of "environment of care." A survey was emailed to members for their input, and 169 members commented on expanding the framework. The task force will use these results to refine the framework and diagram.
