Project ACTION Task Force Members

Ambulatory Care Practice Taxonomy in Outpatient Nursing

This project aims to both create and test the feasibility of using standard descriptors and codes that describe nursing care in ambulatory settings (nursing taxonomy).

Why is this important?

Nursing has no standard terminology that describes practice. This prevents us from:

  • Describing our work to administrators, payers, and policy makers
  • Connecting best practices to quality outcomes across organizations
  • Teaching students about evidence-based care
  • Quantifying staffing resources needed to provide quality care and outcomes
  • Direct billing for services

We are recruiting for two roles:

Content Expert: Taxonomy Development and Validation

This role will involve literature review, synthesis, strong knowledge of ambulatory care practice, validation methodologies such as Delphi study or other structures that could be employed to elicit expert validation, and participation in dissemination activities.

The ideal candidate would be able to commit 6-8 hours/month

Implementation/Feasibility Oversight Committee

This role will support feasibility testing with pilot and partner organizations, help with documentation of best practice workflows, designing reports and structures, reviewing data, analyzing pilot results, suggesting process improvements, and organizational recruitment. An ideal candidate would understand ambulatory care documentation systems and reports, and use a systems thinking approach to create useful information for the specialty and participating organizations.

The ideal candidate would be able to commit 4-6 hours/month.

Call for AAACN Grant Review Panel Members

The AAACN Research Committee is seeking experienced nurse scholars and clinicians to serve on the Grant Review Panel and help strengthen research proposals and advance ambulatory care nursing research.

Applicants should have a PhD, DNS, EdD, or DNP, or are a master's-prepared advanced practice nurse (CNS/NP) with research and/or EBP experience.

Applications are due by September 15, 2026.

Selection Process

Volunteers are selected through open calls held throughout the year. Members submit a CV and, in some cases, complete a questionnaire. Chairs, with input from the Board Liaison, select volunteers based on expertise and other factors that support the group's success. Applicants who are not selected are kept on file for future volunteer opportunities.
