About the Award

The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award recognizes a nurse researcher who has made significant contributions to ambulatory care nursing research. The honoree is a nationally recognized nurse researcher, known for publications, presentations, mentorship and consultation in research relevant to the mission and vision of AAACN in advancing the science of ambulatory care nursing.

The purpose of this award is to recognize the contributions of an AAACN member who conducts and promotes research that enhances the science and practice of ambulatory care nursing. The honoree will present his or her research at the annual AAACN Conference.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The nominee must be an active AAACN member for at least 5 years.
  • The nominee must be nominated by an AAACN member.
  • The nominee must have an earned doctorate in nursing (PhD, DNP, DNS) or a related field.
  • The nominee agrees to attend the AAACN Annual Conference in person to receive the award and give a brief presentation about theirprogram of research.
  • Current AAACN Board members are not eligible.

Criteria for Nomination

The nomination should show evidence of the nominee meeting the following criteria:

  1. Has a history of a sustained program of research that advances the science of ambulatory care nursing
  2. Broadly disseminates findings of ambulatory care research to share knowledge and experiences in research
  3. Serves as a mentor and leader to develop and influence the next generation of ambulatory care nurse researchers
  4. Has documented contributions to AAACN and the ambulatory care nursing community-at-large

Submission Requirements

  1. Nomination narrative - Provide specific evidence/examples to indicate the ways in which the nominee meets each criterion. Provide information about the achievements for which recognition should be given. Nominees will be judged only on the data supplied by the nominator(s). Please do not copy and paste sections of the nominee's CV when providing evidence of award criterion. Maximum length of nomination narrative is 2 pages.
  2. Curriculum vitae (limit 10 pages) or NIH biosketch of nominee substantiating primary area of contribution to the science of ambulatory care nursing and emphasizing their accomplishments.
  3. Two letters of support completed by individuals familiar with the nominee's scholarly body of research each no greater than 2 pages in length
    1. Include nominee's name, credentials, and contact information in support letters.
  4. Two recent examples of scholarly work (published articles) authored by the nominee demonstrating the quality and rigor of their work. Research published in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
  5. Letter of Acceptance - A statement from the nominee accepting the nomination and agreeing to attend the AAACN annual conference in person and present if selected as the award honoree.

Award

A plaque will be presented to the winner at the Annual Conference.
