We are now accepting applications from dedicated and enthusiastic members who are interested in serving in the Emerging Professional Fellow Board position. The purpose of the Fellow Board Position is to provide our Board of Directors with their perspective on emerging key issues facing ambulatory care nurses and the association.

This position will be for a one-year term beginning at next year’s Annual Conference in April 2024. This is not a vote-in position; candidates will be selected by the Board of Directors after a blind review. Final candidates will be interviewed virtually by select members of the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

  1. Active RN in Ambulatory Care
  2. Full voting member of AAACN and in good standing.
  3. Must have five years or less experience in ambulatory nursing at the time of appointment.
  4. Previous experience in a volunteer position is recommended.
  5. Ability and willingness to commit the necessary time to both preparation and travel for projects and meetings related to AAACN board activities.
  6. Free of commitment to an AAACN position and to any position with any other organization which may present a real or perceived conflict at the time the Emerging Professional Fellow position would be assumed.
  7. Flexibility to meet deadlines as they arise.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide the emerging professional perspective and key insights at the national level through active participation in all Board meetings.
  2. Serve as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors.
  3. Participate in all Board meetings and all conference calls during the year (once a month virtually; twice a year in person). Travel expenses covered.
  4. Participate in Board projects and workgroups as assigned.
  5. Attend the AAACN annual conference in April 2024 and May 2025 and provide an update/seek commentary on issues facing emerging professionals during the conference. Travel expenses covered.
  6. Attend NALA in August. Travel expenses covered.
  7. Mentor and support the transition of the next emerging fellow to their duties and responsibilities of the role as assigned.
  8. Understand, uphold, and support the philosophy, mission, core values, objectives, bylaws, and policies of AAACN.
  9. Support and facilitate the fulfillment of the strategic plan.
  10. Assume responsibilities delegated by the President or Board of Directors.
  11. Prepare agenda items to be presented for discussion or action at board meetings.
  12. Write an article for Viewpoint on their experience prior to the end of the term.
