Director Candidates (3)
(Three candidates; One open position)
Caroline V Coburn, DNP, MS, BSN, APRN, ANP-BC
Associate Professor
Emory University School of Nursing
Member Since 2016
Candidate Statement:
I’m genuinely honored to be a candidate for the AAACN Board of Directors. Since joining AAACN in 2016, I’ve been involved in a number of activities for AAACN, including the task force for ambulatory-practice guidelines, participation in the Publications Committee, and most recently, lead editor for the upcoming revision of Core Curriculum for Ambulatory Care Nursing. My work as a nursing professor gives me the opportunity to teach future nurses the importance and value of ambulatory care, and participation in AAACN provides constant support and resources for that message.
As a participant in every annual conference since I joined AAACN, I’ve seen changes over the years that are both impressive and exciting. As the Board evolves in its mission and outreach, there are two areas to which I could contribute. The first area would be to increase the message to our clinical collaborators about the value and contributions of RNs in the ambulatory setting. Among other ways, this can happen through professional visibility in print and media that reaches beyond nursing publications. The second area would be delivering nursing resources in all formats – print, electronic, and visual. Just-in-time resources that provide ambulatory RNs with immediate access to the information they need when they need it can both elevate and grow our profession. It would be my great pleasure to participate at the Board level in this valuable organization and I would appreciate the opportunity to serve at this position.
Lisa Duncan, DNP, MBA, RN, AMB-BC, CIC, NEA-BC
VP, Regulatory Clinical Compliance
Family Health Centers of San Diego
Member Since 2011
Candidate Statement:
My journey with AAACN began when I assumed the Director of Nursing position at a Community Clinic. Looking within my organization for peers and resources, I realized I didn’t have any nurses there. When I found AAACN, I knew I had found my community. I read questions and responses on discussion boards and grew to post questions and responses myself. I attended a conference and returned to work energized and ready to try innovative ideas. Several years ago, I listened to a presentation of survey results and subsequently put my name forward to do some further work.
That work turned into development of the Ambulatory Care Nurse Executive Toolkit, and I was lucky enough to be part of the team introducing it the AONL and AAACN conferences in 2019. As my work with AAACN grew, I loved being a part of an organization providing so much value for Ambulatory Care Nurses. I mustered up my courage and ran for a position on the Nominating Committee. Being part of the Nominating Committee of AAACN, recruiting and interviewing candidates for elected positions and reviewing applications for scholarships and awards, has brought immense satisfaction and joy. I have been a moderator for conference sessions, and a reviewer for podium and poster presentation applications. I am a new member of the Publications Committee. I’d like to extend and further my service to an organization made up of so many dedicated, talented nurses by being on the Board of Directors.
Denise A. Moultrie, EdD, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, CCNS, CNOR
VP, Clinical Operations Emory Healthcare Population Health Collaborative
Emory Healthcare
Member Since 2020
Candidate Statement:
I am excited to have the potential opportunity to serve on the AAACN Board of Directors. I have been a member of AAACN for six years. During this time, I have been impassioned by and have witnessed the strategic direction and mission of AAACN, in the advancement of ambulatory care nursing. I have been a part of rapid-fire, poster and podium presentations at our conferences. I have been selected for a second term of appointment on the Planning Committee.
I bring a solid foundation of clinical expertise, strategic leadership, and a deep commitment to advance ambulatory care nursing. In May of 2025, I became the proud recipient of the DAISY Nurse Leader award. My 20 years of military service combined with hands-on ambulatory nursing care experiences prepared me to lead initiatives that improved care coordination, enhanced nursing workflows, and have empowered ambulatory nurses. What sets me apart is my ability to connect the broader goals of healthcare transformation with the everyday realities and challenges experienced by our ambulatory care nurses. These include the increased demand for and use of technology. Simultaneously, nurses cannot neglect the importance of the human touch in patient care.
I believe in mentorship, collaboration, and nurse empowerment. I have seen how these values strengthen teams and improve patient experiences. If elected I will work to enhance AAACN’s role in fostering leadership and top of license work. I am committed in representing our members’ voices and being an asset in strengthening the vision and future of AAACN.
