American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing 38th Annual Conference

Pitman, NJ - The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) will host its 38th Annual Conference at the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, April 23-26, 2013. The conference presents an outstanding program with respected speakers and a focus on Ambulatory Care Nurse Care Coordination Competencies. Additional specialty sessions and personalized tracks are woven throughout the conference program.
The AAACN conference attracts a broad range of health care providers who work in ambulatory care settings, including military and telehealth. Attendees include RNs who are administrators, directors, managers, educators, care coordinators, and clinicians interested in advancing their practice and improving patient care.
Attendees will also earn continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hours, view posters, visit the Exhibit Hall, and network with colleagues. Participants may also register for the Telehealth Nursing Practice Core Course (TNPCC) and the Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification Review Course.
One conference highlight will be a Keynote Address by Virginia R. Beeson's, MSN, NEA-BC. She will discuss the importance of courageous leadership in a session entitled, "Why Courage?" Nurses' actions and decisions require strong responses and sometimes, unpopular choices. Beeson will explore what courage as a leadership skill means and how to become a more courageous leader.

Conference Program
On Tuesday, April 23, 2013, AAACN President, Suzanne N. Wells, MSN, RN, will officially open the conference. Immediately following, attendees will hear Beeson's address.
Concurrent sessions will run from April 23-25. Two special tracks will highlight leadership and telehealth topics. Topics include:
- Areas of Controversy in Telephone Triage
- Uncontrolled Hypertension in Primary Care
- Patient Safety in the Ambulatory Care Setting
- The New Role of Nursing – Nursing Informatics
- Ambulatory Care RN Care Coordination Competencies
- Integrating Behavioral Health Care into the Patient-Centered Medical Home
On Thursday, April 25, incoming 2013-2014 AAACN President Susan Paschke, MSN, RN-BC, NEA-BC, will deliver her President's Address. Later that day, Traci Haynes, MSN, BA, RN, CEN, will facilitate the Town Hall on patient and nurse wellness. This popular event offers participants a chance to share thoughts, best practices, and ask questions.
Pre-Conference Education
On Tuesday, April 23, Eileen Esposito, DNP, RN-BC, CPHQ, will present the pre-conference workshop, "Ambulatory Basics and Beyond." Esposito will help attendees explore the work and workflows in ambulatory practice, and provide practical tips and tools for integrating quality measures into everyday practice.
Mary Elizabeth Greenberg, PhD, RN-BC, C-TNP, will present another workshop, "Writing for Publication: ‘Let's Git ‘Er Done!'" This workshop will provide individualized and in-depth interaction to help attendees create a manuscript fit for publication. Attendees will leave with a rough draft and a plan to complete and submit a manuscript.
The "Tri-Service Military Pre-Conference" will be on Sunday, April 21, and Monday, April 22. This program will provide a forum to share best practices and learn about the challenges and accomplishments each service faces in the ambulatory care arena. This program is designed to be educational for all branches of the military.
Post-Conference Education
On Friday, April 26, AAACN will host two popular all-day post-conference education sessions. In the "Telehealth Nursing Practice Core Course," attendees will get a baseline knowledge of telehealth nursing practice. Topics include clinical decision tools, communication, customer service, documentation, legal issues, nursing roles, and technology.v
The "Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification Review Course," also on Friday, is designed to help RNs prepare for the Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification Exam. The session will provide an overview of the specialty and present topics in a problem-solving format so attendees may boost their knowledge and enhance critical thinking.
All pre- and post-conference education sessions require separate fees and registration.
Special Events
On Tuesday, April 23, AAACN will host a session to welcome new members and first-time conference attendees. The session will be followed by the Opening Reception and Silent Auction. Money raised at the auction will benefit the AAACN Scholarship Program.
Online Library
Full conference attendees will enjoy the benefits of the AAACN Online Library. Presentation materials for education courses are posted in the Online Library before the conference for attendees to download. After the conference, the content of approved sessions will be available indefinitely at no charge for participants. In addition, registrants have the added benefit of being able to share their free Online Library content with two colleagues.
Continuing Education
Participants may earn up to 17.25 CNE contact hours during the three day-conference (includes 3.0 contact hours for the pre-conference session). Additional hours may be earned by attending post-conference education sessions.
