About AAACN

You are invited to explore the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN), a welcoming, unifying community for registered nurses (RNs) in all ambulatory care or outpatient settings.

Many RNs like you feel they’ve found their professional home when they learned about and joined AAACN.

Why? Because you’ll find:

  • Connections with other nurses in similar roles.
  • Help in advancing your practice and leadership skills.
  • Advocacy for the importance of the RN in ambulatory care settings.

Note for staff: This video on this page is still really good  [see video here: /about/about-aaacn ]. Could also get new videos from other members.

Where else can you find access to over 4,000 ambulatory care nurses to ask questions, learn best practices, and get help with your practice challenges?

You’ve come to the right place. AAACN is a nonprofit, professional specialty nursing association dedicated to the professional growth of its more than 4,300 members who practice in a variety of ambulatory care or outpatient settings.

As an ambulatory care nurse, you’ll relate to our mission to advance the art and science of ambulatory care nursing.

Together, we build the evidence to achieve patient safety and quality outcomes in the outpatient setting.

Sometimes, nurses practice in ambulatory care settings and don’t realize they are ambulatory care nurses until they hear about AAACN. Once they join, they’re hooked.

If you aren’t hooked yet, or not sure you are an ambulatory care nurse, read on…

AAACN (formerly the American Academy of Ambulatory Nursing Administration) was founded in 1978 as a not for profit, educational forum.

In 1993, the organization's name was changed to the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN). Membership was broadened to include nurses in clinical practice, education, and research roles as well as those in management and administration.

AAACN is the only specialty nursing association that focuses on excellence in ambulatory care.

Our mission is to advance the art and science of ambulatory care nursing.

Our goals are:

  • Expand our Influence - Expand the influence of AAACN and ambulatory care nurses to achieve a greater positive impact on the quality of ambulatory care.
  • Strengthen our Core - Ensure a healthy organization committed to serving our members and expanding our influence.
