The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has implemented a new model and framework for training registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and nurse specialists.

In April 2021, deans from ANCC-affiliated nursing schools from across the nation approved The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education, which defines competency requirements for baccalaureate and graduate nursing program graduates.

This is a significant move that will revolutionize how nurses are prepared for entry-level and advanced roles.
