Endorsement of Updated JCAHO Wrong Site Surgery Protocol

AAACN has endorsed the revised JCAHO Universal Protocol on Wrong Site Surgery which will be effective January 1, 2009. The Universal Protocol was revised based on feedback received at the Wrong Site Surgery Summit in 2007 and has new or deleted elements of performance. It includes a new numbering system and minor language changes for consistency. The new numbering format was designed to enable sorting electronically (for the new E-ditions of the manuals) and to accommodate the addition of new requirements.


AAACN Supports the VA Let's Get Certified Program

AAACN is supporting the Veterans Administration (VA) national "Let's Get Certified" program that runs through May 31, 2009. This initiative promotes nurses within the VA to get certified in a variety of specialties, including ambulatory care.

AAACN supports this initiative with special discounts on study materials to prepare for the exam. ANCC is also offering $100 off the full exam fee.


Comment on JCAHO Blood Management Performance Measures

The Blood Management Performance Measures Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) has identified 19 Blood Management Candidate Measures addressing key aspects of Blood Management. The Joint Commission is requesting stakeholder review and public comment on these measures. You can access the survey at must be received by Tuesday, August 19, 2008.


Certification Exam Deadline QUICKLY Approaching

Chicago Conference a SUCCESS!!!

684 ambulatory and telehealth nurses gathered in Chicago Thursday evening, April 17, to kick off the 33rd annual conference with the Opening Reception and Silent Auction which raised over $4,000 for the AAACN Scholarship Fund. The U.S. Air Force Health Care Integrators (HCI) and Tri-Service Military Pre-Conferences were also successes. 96 nurses took the Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification Review Course prior to the conference and 55 nurses sat for the Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification Exam on Sunday afternoon, after the conference closed.
